Type: Instructional Videos
Date: 2021
Target Audience: Department of Defense Learners
Tools Used: Camtasia
Challenge: Learners sent emails with errors and struggled with project management skills.
Action: Utilized Cathy Moore's Action Mapping Model to identify skill gaps, vital information, and opportunities for practice and feedback.
Results: Improved communication and project management skills.
I developed this project to help learners improve their written communication skills and project management skills. They frequently sent emails with spelling and grammatical errors and unintended tones. They also struggle with managing project resources and connections around the globe.
Learners struggled with written communication and project management skills. They sent emails that distracted readers with errors and alienated people with unintended negative tones. They also struggled with how to manage all the tabs they used and when to connect to global peers and instructors.
To develop a solution to the problems, I utilized Cathy Moore's Action Mapping Model to identify the:
Goals
Necessary information
Practice options
Feedback options
To create the videos, I researched and curated the content, designed video scripts, created and edited the videos. A development challenge I encountered was editing the videos while learning the Camtasia program. I overcame the challenge by viewing Camtasia's instructional videos to learn how to record, edit, zoom, and add animations.
As a result of these videos, learners improved their writing skills by correcting errors from feedback and finding the right tone. In addition to correcting their errors. they learned from the immediate feedback that Grammarly provided them to improve their spelling, grammar, and tone. They also improved their project management skills by organizing their tabs into folders and converting time to different time zones, which enabled them to collaborate more effectively.
